Canadian Goldenrod, Solidago Canadensis
Canadian Goldenrod, Solidago Canadensis
Canadian Goldenrod is a native perennial forb from the Aster family that flourishes throughout North America, including the Pacific Northwest. With a breathtaking display of small, star-shaped yellow flowers in late summer, this goldenrod serves as an insect "truck-stop," attracting a diverse range of pollinators such as yellow-faced bumblebees, honey bees, long-horned bees, and syrphid flies. Recognized by the USDA for hosting beneficial wasps and native specialist bees, the Canadian Goldenrod is an ecological cornerstone. Thriving with minimal care, it forms resilient colonies through rhizomes and seeds, creating impressive drifts of yellow blooms for those with ample space. Beyond its ecological significance, the brightly colored spikes also make for captivating cut flowers, adding an interesting dimension to your floral arrangements.

Native: North America
Hardiness: Perennial
Exposure: Full sun to partial shade
Bloom Period: Summer to Fall
When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. The only requirement for most Solidago species is a 60-day cold stratification period. This can be naturally achieved by sowing the seeds outdoors in a weed-free location in the late fall or early spring so the seeds are naturally exposed to prolonged cold, moist conditions.
Seed Depth: Barely mixed in with surface soil
