Giant hyssop is a fragrant, upright perennial with tall spikes of lavender-purple flowers that bloom from early summer into fall. The leaves release a sweet, anise-like scent when brushed or crushed, making it as delightful to the senses as it is to pollinators. Loved by bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, this hardy plant is a showstopper in sunny borders, meadows, and herb gardens. Grown from organic locally adapted seed.
Size at maturity: 2–4 ft tall, 1–2 ft wide
Light: Full sun to light shade
Water: Medium to dry; prefers well-drained soil
Bloom time: June–September
Wildlife: Attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds; seeds eaten by small birds
Special features & uses: Aromatic leaves for teas and culinary use; edible flowers; deer-resistant; drought-tolerant once established.
Plant in clusters for the best pollinator activity and visual impact. Deadhead for extended blooming or allow some flowers to go to seed for reseeding and winter bird forage.
