Swamp milkweed is a beautiful native perennial with clusters of fragrant pink flowers that bloom through summer. Despite its name, it does not need to grow in standing water and performs well in ordinary garden soil when provided adequate moisture. Like other milkweeds, it is an important host plant for monarch butterflies and supports a wide range of pollinating insects.

Plant with: Douglas aster and geum for a long-blooming pollinator garden, or common rush and red-twig dogwood for a moisture-loving rain garden.
